Richard Schumacher, a conductor active on all over the world, has directed The Masterplayers, a chamber orchestra composed of leading solo and chamber players from all over the world since 1954. Charles Dutoit, Heinz Holliger, Maxence Larrieu, Peter Lukas Graf, Elzbieta Stefanska were members of the ensemble. A heavy touring schedule, as well as recordings for several European labels (Angelicum, Amadeo, Decca, Warner-Fonit, Electrecord brought them world-wide acclaim.

Schumacher is founder of the Masterplayers International Music Academy Corporation and the Masterplayers International Music Competition for conductors, instrumentalists, singers, choirs, orchestras and chamber music groups.. With his book „The Charisma of the Baton“ and since 1981 Maestro Schumacher has been explaining his conducting art in mastercourses in Amsterdam, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Paris, Lugano, Firenze, Valsolda,, Lausanne, Mürzzuschlag,, Graz, Szombathely, Ljubljana, Vilanova y la Geltru, New York and San Francisco. As word spreads of his impressive results, conductors come from all over the world to study with him. Many of his students have won First Prizes in various famous conducting competitions, including the Toscanini Prize (Parma), the Nicolai Malko Prize (Denmark), the Fricsay Prize (Berlin), the Bruno Walter Prize (Lugano Lausanne), the Masterplayers Prize (Berlin and Lugano) and other competitions in San Remo (Italy), Mürzzuschlag (Austria) Olomouc (Czech Republic) and Tokyo
